Cumberland Place, Southampton

Rame Consulting Limited was appointed as Project Manager for the redevelopment of an office site in Southampton by the client – a Joint Venture between Apache Captial Partners and Investra Capital Partners. The role included the procurement of the demolition and ground clearance of the existing building, and the design, procurement and construction of the new student building.

The permitted scheme was adjusted to provide roof terraces and relocation of student amenity space at both ground and roof level. The building interiors were designed to deliver the highest standards of both bedrooms and common spaces in the Southampton market.

The key to success of the project was the delivery of site demolition and clearance along with piling as a separate works package prior to the commencement of the main contract.

The scheme had a combination of cluster bedrooms and studios.

The aspect of the development overlooking Watts Park has been used to enhance the student experience including the delivery of a roof terrace and lounge on the top floor of the building.

The quality of the amenity space was key to the student experience. Interior design, including the selection of internal finishes, was undertaken by Naomi Cleaver and integrated into the over architectural design by the scheme architect O’Connell East Architects.
